Nehru Hall -- The Musical

My so called home for the past 4 years has suddenly turned musical this semester. It was a surprise, a pleasent surprise I must say that when I came back from the vacations I found Sony Music Systems in my mess, canteen and bookstore. For the first few days they were playing something what some people might call music but I beg to differ from them. All of them constantly played the song(I hate using this word for it) Agar tum mil jaao, zamana chor denge hum and it was horrible. I donated three MP3 CDs, one to each of them of floyd, zep and doors respectively. I also made a pact with the canteen guy, Ashim that whenever I come to hog(yeah.. thats the right word... I dont eat, I hog) he has to play zep and if he keeps doing that I will donate him a CD every month. I think thats a cheap bargain because for as little as 10 bucks a month I get to listen to good stuff and dont get agitated at the stupid numbers. However I couldn't make the same deal with the book store guy. In the mess the CDs are just lying there and anyone can change them. I had given CDs to a special someone(hope you are reading this you email-less woman) but she probably likes Backstreet Boys better than Doors. Its a perfect case of an old adage which said "Kutte ko ghee khila do to use hazam nahin hota". I think she is fuming reading this but I had to vent out my frustration somewhere :)
Things are improving on the hard-disk front. The computer might be repaired and working by this weekend and I have taken a decision to remove Windows from my Comp. Fedora is the only one that I havent tried and I am planning to give that a shot.

Hard Disk Crash

My life has a new begining today. I am a lost soul now. I don't even know what to say or write at this terrible tragedy. All the music I collected, all the poems I ever wrote, all the pics that I collected from various sources, an unfinished novel.... everything is GONE. I am still trying to cope with it.

Hari Puttar

My tickets for return to the jungle are confirmed and so are confirmed the promises from my friends of booze on my so called homecoming. I must say that I am excited about it. There are more than one reasons to be excited. Another one is the fact that “SHE” is coming back from exile and we can talk on the phone. I will have to plan a trip to kolkata real soon but I don’t think that it’ll be possible before mid-august. To all those who think that mid of august isnt that far, “You aren’t wearing my shoes.”
I find one thing missing from the blogs I read and that is the Harry Potter Mania. Why isn’t anyone talking about it this time. It created a whole babooshka when Order of Phoenix came out. May be its because people are tired of it. May be people are bugged by the increasing size of the so called children novel. May be people don’t like to admit it in public that they like Harry Potter. May be its because they know that Dumbledore is going to die at the end of this one. Whatever be the reasons, let me be the first one to raise the issue. I am not one of those who is going to spend 900 bucks on it. I’ll wait till a soft copy of the book comes out. Then I would download it and read it in peace. If anyone of you wants the soft copy too leave a note in the comment section. However I must warn you that it won’t be easy to read such a voluminous book at the computer. Start with something like Animal Farm if you are not used to it.

So, I finally met her. No sparks flew, no shooting star, no flirts, nothing. As Hugh Grant would like to say, it was “Nice but surreal”. We are on the terrace of her house.

Me: Hi (Smiling with 28 teeth visible)
NS: Hi (Drinking coffee)
Me: One more year left in medicine? (Smiling even more and I don’t know why I was concentrating on the monkey who was sitting, with family on the third roof from the left)
NS: Yeah. You also got one more year left?
Me: Yups. (Smiling with all 32 visible. The monkeys were sitting patiently, not making a move but giving me weird looks.)

30 longest seconds of my life which felt like an eternity. Not a single word spoken. My heart was going bang bang, my mind was going coo-coo and the monkeys… well they weren’t doing anything. The only thought I had was to ask for her phone number. Cmon Handa you can do it… Cmon.. and I blurted out

“Aunty ghar par hain?”
She said,”Haan, bulaati hoon.”

And that’s how the great story came to an end. Quite an achievement after 7 years of silence and I am still smiling. Even my mom asked me today that if I was OK. I wish I could tell her that I was coo-coo….. I even like typing coo-coo. Baah.. I am just going nuts.

What Do You Want From Me?

I am reading a lot these days and I mean a real lot. I have finished three novels in the past five days and I plan on finishing another three in the next five. The reason for this sudden outburst is a mail that I got from one of my friends. He mailed me a list of top 100 books compiled by Modern Library. You can view the list here. He mailed it into our group and I topped it with a score of 26. This was a great morale booster. However, I have decided one thing that I will read only short novels on the computer and the big ones in hard copy. I know its hard to find them in hard copy but I don’t have a choice. Confession: I still haven’t read Lord Of The Rings. Another reason for this decision is that my speed drops dramatically when reading on the computer. Its around 350 wpm on paper but barely 150-200 wpm on the computer. Do tell me your score from the list because I am quite sure that I will beat you. *Sticking my tongue out*

The books that I have read or the ones I am going to read in near future are:
Foundation by Isaac Asimov
Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov
Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov
War Of The Worlds by H. G. Wells
The Door Into Summer by Robert A. Heinlein
The Call Of The Wild by Jack London
If you want any of them in soft copies, leave a comment. I will mail them to you as soon as possible.

N.S. Update : Mustered up the courage to go to her place only to find out that she has gone to her nani’s place for a few days. She will be back on the 6th and she will be leaving on the 9th. Oh God, Devil and Whatever… One of you help me.

Bharatpur Aaj Tak

Bharatpur is going to make the national news very soon. Our very own Bharatpuriya Natwar Singh along with Laloo Prasad Yadav are coming to town for the inauguration of Jaipur Bharatpur Railway line. From now on Jodhpur Howrah, one of the few trains suitable to Bharatpuriye KGPians (yes, there are more than one specimens of this breed), will pass from Bharatpur. I might go to see Laloo wave the flag as I also have to get my return ticket.
There is another reason why Bharatpur can make the news; it is the lack of rainfall. Now all those people who are thinking that Bharatpur is in Rajasthan and is not supposed to get that much rain, let me inform you that Bharatpur has seen floods twice in the past ten years. And when I say floods I don’t mean streets covered with water… I mean the real stuff, people dying and abandoning their homes. Our house is in one of the so called elevated colonies of Bharatpur. I still remember people coming to our house to stay for a few days while the water level goes down to normal.
The SVM Group (Shiva Video Magazine, the local cable guy) is all set to launch a new scheme on the lines of Sabeer Bhatia. The Group has promised to provide free cable service to anyone and everyone within the boundaries of the city. The revenue is supposed to be earned from advertisements. There is also a guarantee of solving problems within an hour with the help of two service stations in each colony. Am I the only one who thinks this is a brilliant idea? The scheme will come into operation by December.
N.S. Update: Haven’t seen her yet but her presence has been confirmed by reliable sources. Her father is an ophthalmologist and I am giving serious thoughts to jamming a fork into my eye
